Possibilities. Creativity. Imagination.

There’s something to be said of the status quo, authority, what’s expected, pattern, structure, systems, expectations, and maybe even the suburban home with a dog, 2.2 children, and so on…

I don’t know where I would be if I didn’t have my God to believe in, my parents to guide me, universities to teach me what has been passed down from one generation to another. We benefit from the structure of our society. We are handed wisdom from those who came before us. We’re given safety & protection from growing up in a land of laws & a stable home.

That said, its what we do with those things, what we add to those things, and even what we do beyond or in spite of those things that make each of our lives unique and fulfilling.

How does God manifest Himself in your life? With what facets and shadows do you flesh out the concept of family? In what way do you pay respect to the lessons you’ve inherited?

We form our system of beliefs. For answers. For comfort. To fit in. Because of how we were raised. When I pray I don’t want God to hear a theist, a Christian, a member of such-and-such church – I want him to hear Me. To me He is a God that can know us as individuals, if we’ll go so far as to offer Him our individuality. God is the bit of hope I find when I want to give up. He is the hours that feel like mere minutes when I paint. He is the overwhelming presence I feel when I see what was dreamed of and longed for come to life before my eyes.

We want to be employed but why? Human. Complex. Idealistic. Energetic.

I want a job for intellectual fulfillment, as a way of expressing my ideals, as a way of connecting with humanity in a way that may not be available if I chose to do something else. I don’t know what the future holds. In the past I’ve been a teacher, a healer, an assistant, etc. Each new job posed new and different challenges, affirmations, joys and frustrations. What I do know is that I don’t want to give only a sliver of what I am to what I do. I want my job to be uniquely defined by the manner in which it is done by me.

Don’t do faith like everyone else. Don’t do work live everyone else. Don’t define family like everyone else.

Relish, explore & nurture each aspect of your life because it is yours and yours alone.

You choose to scrape by in your classes or to truly learn. You choose to call yourself a believer or to have a relationship with God. You choose whether you belong to your job or your job belongs to you.

We can’t make more hours in a day. No matter how much we’ve advanced as a society, we all still age and pass on. We are responsible for what we to do with the time we’ve been given. Give it your all. Give it your best. Give it the flair that is uniquely yours.
